Your Fitness

Bushwalking, like any other activity, has its own unexpected hazards and there can always be some element of risk.

You will enjoy your walk more if you know your capabilities before joining on one of the Club’s walks. You are responsible for determining if you are capable of doing an activity, and are responsible for your safety and wellbeing, based on personal judgement and your own level of risk acceptance.

Some Club Rules to Minimise Risk

Before each walk a member or visitor must sign a Trip Sheet which states:

While participating in the above walk I agree to abide by Club Rules and requirements, to accept directions from the leader, but to retain responsibility for my own welfare and that of any children in my care.  I acknowledge that my participation in this activity may expose me to hazards and risks that could lead to injury, illness or death or to loss of or damage to my property.  I will make all reasonable effort to avoid or minimise these risks by only participating in activities within my capabilities, carrying food, water and equipment appropriate for the activity and advising the leader if I am taking any medication or have any physical or other limitation that might affect my participation in the activity. The Club maintains an Insurance Policy. Details are available from the committee. Any incidents relevant to the Policy should be reported to the Trip Leader or the Committee as soon as possible.

To minimise risks there are a few rules to follow which should ensure that you enjoy the walk.

1. I am sure the activity is within my capabilities

2. I am carrying food, water and equipment appropriate for the activity.

3. I will advise the activity leader if I am taking any medication or have any physical or other limitation that might affect my participation in the activity and will not attend a walk if feeling unwell.

4. I will make every effort to remain with the rest of the party during the activity.

5. I will advise the leader of any concerns I am having.

6. I will comply with all reasonable instructions of club officers and the activity leader. If I do not then I will do so at my own risk and will no longer be the responsibility of the club.

7. I will not put any photographs taken on a club walk on my private Facebook sites.
